The building moulds itself around the building, supporting it so that it appears as though it is floating.
A poetry show taking place
The womb inspires the form of the theatre. The project extracts the experience of being engulfed by the surfaces surrounding them. Therefore a performance space where the theatre consumes the audience through its womb-like form.
It was inspired by the artist Ernesto Eto who has produced an influential body of work exploring constructions of social space and the natural world by inviting physical interaction and sensory experience.
The performance in the context
Street passers view the audience watching the poetry performance go on, and due to the street-facing facade materiality, a full-length structural glazing facade, the acoustics of the poetry performance is leaked into the busy market in Dalston.
